Coastal Conversations 5/27/16

Producer/Host: Catherine Schmitt
Studio Engineer: Amy Browne

Issue: Maine coastal and ocean issues

Program Topic: Local stream stewardship and restoration

Key Discussion Points:
Maine’s coastal rivers are home to several species of fish that are “sea run” or diadromous – they spend part of their lives in the ocean but return to freshwater to spawn.
Many Maine land owners and communities are taking action to open passage for migratory fish, restore stream habitat, and learn more about their local rivers and streams.
Stream projects bring together a diverse group of people, from transportation engineers and road construction companies to municipal, state and federal governments, land trusts, schools, and
conservation organizations.

Guests:
Jeremy Bell, The Nature Conservancy
Barbara Charry, Maine Audubon
Ruth Feldman, Island Readers & Writers
Ciona Ulbrich, Maine Coast Heritage Trust
