On Saturday, January 17, 2015 at 4:00pm, the Wicked Good Music Hour featured 97-year-old musician Harry Weiss of Bangor. Mr. Weiss worked for over fifty years as a jazz band member, studio session musician, radio musician and music producer. From playing accordion and piano in night clubs to producing automobile company jingles to working with the writer of the song “Yes We Have No Bananas,” he has done it all. And he continues to play piano nearly every day. On the program Mr. Weiss shares his stories and reflections on his long career in the music industry, in a interview recorded on January 15. He is engaging, sincere and funny, and we think listeners will certainly enjoy getting to know him. And if that’s not enough, all the piano music on the program was played and recorded by Mr. Weiss in the past month. (The Wicked Good Music Hour airs every Saturday afternoon from 4:00-5:00pm and is dedicated to local, Maine and Maine-connected music, usually presenting live studio performances. The program is co-hosted by Matt Murphy and Bre Pinkham Bebb.)

Wicked Good Music Hour 11/15/14
Host Matt Murphy welcomed Maine author and historian Jennifer Wixson to discuss legendary Oxford Hills area music teacher Bess Klain. Wixson shared stories of this inspirational teacher as well as recordings of Miss Klain playing and singing some tunes on her Steinway grand piano. The recording was done by the Oxford Hills Oral History Project in 1990 when Miss Klain was 88 years old. This program was essentially a very nice tribute to a wonderful person and inspiring teacher. Wixson is the author of the popular Sovereign Series of novels, with Maine as the setting, one of whose most beloved characters is based in part on Bess Klain.
